Life is busy and messy and sometimes downright chaotic! That’s part of the beauty of life, but it’s a big obstacle to keeping a home organized. There are a few easy steps that even the busiest families can take, however, to help keep their homes organized.
Have a Place for EVERYTHING
There’s a saying that we just love — “a place for everything and everything in its place.” Every object in your home, from the remote control to the kids’ backpacks, needs its own home. This prevents piles of homeless items from forming in corners, under beds, and at the bottoms of closets.
Get Rid of the Junk
Can’t find a home for that treadmill you haven’t used since last August or the dollhouse your kids begged for but never ever play with? It’s time for this stuff to go! Sort these objects into 2 categories: “to donate” and “to sell”. Give yourself a deadline to sell the things you think you can (think Craiglist or a yard sale) and if you can’t sell it by that date, then those things get donated too.
Straighten Up a Room Before Leaving It
It might seem cumbersome to straighten up every time you exit a room, but the reality is it’s much less time consuming to straighten up 5 minutes here and there throughout the day than it is to spend the whole weekend getting the house put back together!
Involve the Whole Family
In order to keep your home well organized, the whole family has to pitch in. So teach you family the new system — a place for everything and everything in its place, junk and unused belongings gets sold or donated, and straighten up before leaving a room. This takes time and practice, but stick with it and soon it’ll become routine for everyone!
