You’re the parent, the chef, the nurse, the maid, the coach, the teacher...you do it all! Well, guess what? It’s time to drop the kids off at grandma’s because you and yours deserve a date night! Choose one of these Indianapolis date night ideas and just be “in love” for a night.
Travel Back in Time
So you think time traveling is impossible, huh? Then you’ve obviously never visited Fountain Square! To get your time traveling date started, stop in at Imbibe Lobby Bar for Gatsby-era cocktails. Next, step into the 1950s at the Shelby Street Diner for some no-fuss, traditional American food. After dinner, it’s up to you and your partner in crime to decide whether to stay in the ‘50s or head back to the 1920s. Action Duckpin Bowl features early 20th century bowling equipment and pool tables, not to mention an amazing view of downtown Indianapolis. Atomic Duckpin Bowl is furnished with authentic 1950’s and ‘60’s bowling equipment and of course, a jukebox.
Get a Little Culture
Saying that the Cultural Trail is an exciting new addition to our city is an understatement. It’s way more than a bike path, it’s an 8 mile journey adventure through the most vibrant downtown Indy neighborhoods. The Cultural Trail passes by dozens of restaurants, bars, shops, and art installations and murals. Grab your sweetie and your bikes (or simply rent bikes through the Pacers Bikeshare program) and pedal towards adventure and romance!
There are several great places in the city to see a play, but our favorite playhouse is the Indiana Repertory Theatre. The IRT always does a wonderful job at choosing a wide variety of plays each season, covering many different subject matters and spanning the gamut of emotional experiences. And perhaps most importantly, the acting is always top-notch. Because the IRT is located in the heart of downtown, you’ll have no trouble finding a restaurant for dinner beforehand and a bar for drinks afterwards. Some favorites include St. Elmo’s Steakhouse, Fogo deChão, and The Oceanaire.
Root for the Home Team
Virginia might be for lovers but Indianapolis is for sports lovers! No matter the season, there’s always a game to take your sports lovin’ lover to go see. Just in case you’re new to the city or have lived under a rock for the past 20 years, here are a few team suggestions to get you started: Indiana Pacers, Indianapolis Indians, Indiana Fever, Indianapolis Colts, Indy Eleven, Indy Fuel, Indiana Ice.
Spice Things Up
The Jazz Kitchen has long featured one of Indy’s hottest dance nights, the “Latin Dance Party.” If you and your hot tamale have always dreamed of salsa dancing but don’t actually know how, no worries. The good folks at the Jazz Kitchen offer free lessons every Thursday night. After all that spice, you might need to cool things down afterwards. Try drinks at The Corner Wine Bar or the Lower Level bar at 10-01.
